Your privacy on Mann
Last updated: publication date
Draft for review. This policy describes how the app is built today. It needs legal review against the Individual Privacy Act 2075 and the Electronic Transactions Act 2063, and the highlighted items need filling in before it is published.
Mann is a tele-counselling app made by Athena Solutions (“we”). This policy explains what Mann collects, why, who can see it, and how you can delete it. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@athenasolutionsnepal.com.
The short version
- We never record your sessions. In-call chat is deleted when the call ends.
- Your counsellor sees the name you choose, not your phone number.
- Sensitive information, such as your phone number, check-in answers and session notes, is encrypted in our database.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or advertising trackers.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it | How it's protected |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | To sign you in with a one-time SMS code | Encrypted; never shown to providers |
| Display name you choose | So your provider knows what to call you | The only identity providers see |
| Appointments | To book, remind you about and run sessions | Visible to you and that session's provider |
| Pre-session notes | To give your provider context before a session | Encrypted; only you and that provider can read it |
| PHQ-9 and GAD-7 check-ins, mood entries | To track how you're doing and show crisis help when needed | Answers encrypted; scores kept so the clinical team can respond to risk |
| Legal name, date of birth, ID number | Only if a psychiatrist issues you a prescription, which is a legal document | Encrypted; decrypted only to issue and print the prescription |
| Payment records | To confirm and refund payments | We keep the amount and the eSewa or Khalti reference. We never see your wallet PIN or password. |
| Push notification token | To send session reminders | Removed when you sign out |
What we don't collect
- Recordings of your calls. Audio passes through our call server but is never stored.
- In-call chat messages. They go directly between the two of you during the call and are not saved.
- Your contacts, photos or location.
Who can see your information
- Your provider sees your display name, your appointments with them and the notes you write for those sessions.
- A pharmacy checking a prescription sees only your initials, age, sex and a reference number.
- Our staff can access account and payment records only to provide support or meet legal obligations. Encrypted health information is not shown in our admin tools.
- Service providers we rely on: an SMS provider in Nepal for sign-in codes, eSewa and Khalti for payments, and Expo, Google Firebase and Apple to deliver notifications. Notification text never says what an appointment is for.
We share information with authorities only when Nepali law requires it, or when we believe someone's life is in immediate danger.
Where your data is stored
Health information is stored on servers in location of production hosting.
How long we keep it
Retention periods for appointments, check-ins and prescriptions, following legal advice on health-record rules.
Your choices and rights
- You can see and change your display name in the app.
- You can ask for a copy of your information or ask us to correct it.
- You can delete your account. This deletes your notes and check-in answers. Describe the in-app deletion steps and any records we must keep by law, such as issued prescriptions.
- You can turn off reminders in your phone's settings at any time.
Age
Minimum age for using Mann, and how younger users are handled.
Changes to this policy
If we make a significant change, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
